The Light Collection IV on Penang Island is a striking waterfront residential development of 3 residential blocks and 25 private villas hugging a meandering shoreline; connected to a landscaped public piazza featuring a swimming pool, wading pool, playgrounds as the centerpiece.
Conceptually, the project explores an elaboration of varying architectural elements relating with the water – the wave, the dots and the line, creating a ‘layered effect’ for the overall scheme. Metaphorically, the sea, representing the wave, filters through the water villas (dots) and washes up to the shore (podium), stopping at the door step of the apartment blocks (lines). A dynamic interplay of planes and orthogonal volumes, along with simple and defined lines with varied porosity towards the sea reinforces the notion of waterfront living.
